Girls outperform boys in UP Class XII results

Allahabad: In keeping with the trend, girls of Uttar Pradesh Board have outshone boys in Class XII results announced, in which the overall pass percentage stood at 89.40 per cent.
             
The overall pass percentage improved by 9.26 per cent from last year, with girls registering a handsome success rate of 95.52 per cent against 84.73 per cent of boys.
             
CBSE Class XII results announced on May 28 also saw girls' pass percentage at 86.21 as compared to 75.80 per cent of boys.
             
Announcing the results, the state's Director for Secondary Education Vasudev Yadav said that about 26.84 lakh candidates had appeared for the exams out of which about 26.07 lakh were declared successful.
            
Those passing the Intermediate examinations, have also a reason to cheer as the newly-elected Samajwadi Party government has promised to distribute free laptops among them.
            
Although the pass percentage of the girls was 10.79 per cent higher than that of the boys, the male students' pass percentage rose by an impressive 14.2 per cent while that of the females saw a modest increase of 4.76 per cent, Yadav said.
           
However, the proportion of those securing a first division fell by 5.12 per cent even as the percentage of those getting second and third division grew respectively by 4.93 per cent and 1.43 per cent, he added.
           
Students from Bhadohi put up the best performance (96.12 per cent) followed closely by Jaunpur (95.68) and Sitapur (95.68). 
           
The most dismal performance came from Mathura where only 67.05 candidates secured pass marks.
           
Also, in subjects like English, Hindi, History, Geography, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, more than 90 per cent of the candidates secured pass marks though in Mathematics the success rate was slightly lower at 87.71 per cent. 

UP govt to extend all help in setting up AIIMS at Rae Bareli

Lucknow: The Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh said it was ready to extend all possible help to set up an All India Institute of Medical Sciences at Rae Bareli, parliamentary constituency of Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
   
Providing high quality medical services to the people of the state is among the priorities of the government and it is willing to extend every type of support to the Centre in setting up of an AIIMS, an official spokesman said.
   
He said MLA from Saraini in Rae Bareli Devendra Pratap Singh has submitted a proposal to the Chief Minister to provide 114-acre land in Chanda village for the project. 
   
The spokesman said while the MLA has mentioned availability of 50.31 acre government land, he has submitted consent letters of farmers for another 63.4 acre land. 
   
He said the Sub-Divisional Magistrate had submitted his report to the District Magistrate Rae Bareli regarding identified land.
  
The spokesman said MLA from Bachrawan Ramlal Akela has also said about availability of land in his constituency for setting up of AIIMS. 

PIL seeks AIIMS-like institute in Allahabad

Allahabad: A Public Interest Litigation was filed in the Allahabad High Court seeking setting up of an AIIMS-like institute in the city.
      
The PIL, filed by advocate B P Singh, sought a direction to the Uttar Pradesh government and the Centre for setting up the proposed institute here.
      
The PIL said the city was best-suited for such a project and this would help in reducing the rush of patients from the impoverished regions of Uttar Pradesh to the AIIMS in Delhi. 
      
The petition alleged though the Centre had sanctioned more than Rs 800 crore for the proposed project, there had been no headway due to lack of coordination between the Centre the state government.
      
The PIL is likely to come up for hearing on May 2. 

UP to promote IT sector

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government Monday decided to give a fresh impetus to the IT sector and involve it in education, health, industry and governance.

The move came after a two-hour meeting Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had with HCL chairman Shiv Nadar.

Earlier, in his presentation before the chief minister, Nadar said that integration of IT with governance could yield wonderful results and could involve more people in sectors like health and higher education.

He also proposed that 20 primary schools in 2012 and 100 primary schools in 2013 be included in financial funding by the Shiv Nadar Foundation.

Akhilesh Yadav earlier told Nadar that he wished that computers were used like mobiles in the state.

Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh government rolled out a red carpet welcome for Nadar and his seven-member delegation as it landed in a chartered flight.

The meeting was called to decide on the possible and prompt modalities of rolling out the ambitious election promise of giving free Tablets to students who pass Class X and a laptop to all those who clear Class XII.

A close aide said the chief minister was more focused on the availability and a time frame for giving away the laptops and tablets.

The move is likely to cost the government Rs.1,819 crore - calculated at Rs.10,000 a laptop and Rs.1,000 per tablet.

A total of 22.93 lakh students passed the Class X exam through the UP Board last year and 15.90 lakh appeared for the Class XII or Intermediate exam.

UP govt rolls out freebies to students, unemployed

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh cabinet decided to provide unemployment allowance of Rs 1000 per month to those over 35 years of age and laptops and computer tablets to class 12th and 10th passouts respectively.

The first cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Akhilesh Yadav also decided to provide unemployment allowance to all those registered with the employment exchanges above 35 years of age and class 10 pass, Chief Secretary Anup Misra told newspersons here.

In another populist step, the cabinet decided Muslim girls passing class 10 would get financial assistance of Rs. 30,000 for further education or marriage without any criterion of income, Misra said adding there would be about one lakh such girls and the scheme would cost Rs. 300 crores.

According to estimates, there are some nine lakh registered unemployed persons and they will be provided Rs. 1000 per month from the next financial year and this would cost around Rs. 1100 crores on the state exchequer annually, Misra said.

In other important decisions in keeping with the SP election manifesto, the cabinet decided to provide tablets to all girl and boy students passing out of class 10th and laptops to all those passing out of class 12th on taking admission in the next class.

This would cover students of all the boards and schools in the state, including madarsa students, Misra said adding it was estimated that some 25 lakh tablets and as many laptops would be required for this scheme which would together cost Rs. 3000 crores per year. The scheme would come into force from this year.
