14 school vehicles found operating without permit in Erode

Erode (TN): In a crackdown on unauthorised vehicles used for transporting school children in the wake of the death of a six-year old girl in Chennai, Regional Transport Officials here slapped a fine of Rs 84,000 on 14 vehciles being operated without necessary permit.
    
The officials conducted inspections of school buses, vans and mini vans across the district yesterday and found 14 vehicles plying without proper permit for transporting school children, officials said.
   
The Transport department has ordered the crackdown after the shocking death of S Sruthi, a class II student of a private school in Chennai, who was crushed to death under the wheels of her school bus when she fell down through a hole on the floor of the bus near Tambaram.
    
Besides slapping a total fine of Rs 84,000, the officials ordered the operators of the vehicle to apply for necessary permit for transporting school children, they said.

Note book prices set soar up as institutions prepare to open in June


Erode: With schools and colleges preparing to reopen in the month of June, book makers and printers reveal that rise in price raw materials for making note books would result in higher prices this year.

In the process making notebooks, materials like white paper, binding board and gum are required that are sourced from various places. White paper is sourced comes from Pugalur and Pallipallyam, binding board is obtained from Erode, Mamarathupallyam, book binding cloth, 'CALICO" is obtained from Erode and the glue that puts all these things together is bought from Madurai. 

Paper obtained from the paper mills is cut according to the appropriate size with specialized machines. If ruled notebooks are needed, lines are drawn on the white paper with help of ruling machine as per a specification. Earlier, cutting and binding were carried out separately.  But, now, binding is carried out through a single machine named, 'Valpo', which, is capable of bringing out 1000 notebooks in one hour.  
     
A paper merchant from Erode, told, " For manufacture of note books, we purchase white paper from Kugalur. A ton of white paper costs Rs54, 000 and the paper cost have gone up by Rs4, 000 per ton in the last 4 months. With one ton of white paper, it is possible to make 3000 note books of one quire size note books."

Differently abled get job

Erode: Employment opportunities were made to 83 differently abled persons in the district at a job mela held here.
   
The mela was organsied as per the instructions of District Collector. Officials of the District Employment and Training Exchange officials, Erode District Industries Centre, Differently Abled welfare Association of Nandha Arts and Science College and Erode District Small Scale Industries Association attended it.
   
About 300 differently abled persosn attended the mela, of which 83 got and they were selected by 17 firms.
