Nitish urges AMU to start construction of study centre

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar urged Aligarh Muslim University to start construction of its study centre in Kishanganj district so that academic activities could begin there.
 
Undertaking inspection of the 224-acre AMU study centre site at Kishanganj during his seva yatra, Kumar said he would like AMU to undertake fencing of the site handed over to it by the state government and begin construction of infrastructure.
 
The chief minister thanked the AMU for accepting the state government's proposal to set up its study centre at Kishanganj in view of the backwardness of the region as far as the availability of academic infrastructure was concerned.
 
Now that various formalities related to the centre has been completed, it was for the AMU administration to fulfil its obligation and construct buildings and related infrastructure so that the bright students of the minority community could pursue higher education, he said. 
 
The AMU study centre will prove to be an ideal higher education destination for the students of the minority community of not only Kishanganj district, but of the entire state, Kumar said.

IIT students to organise educational yatra


Patna: "IITians for youth (IFY)", an organisation of students from IIT Kharagpur, will organise an educational yatra for the students of Bihar which aims to provide quality learning and creating awareness among rural and underprivileged students.
    
The organisation in association with Bihar Police will be organising this Yatra from May 5 to May 25.     
During the campaign the students will be given guidance, motivation and will be shown proper approach towards studies.
    
The team will visit Gaya, Aurangabad, Rohtas, and Kaimur and some Maoist-affected areas.
     
Ankit Agarwal, Senior IFY member said the students from the rural areas lack awareness about various opportunities available to them and they will be told about all of them like various career options, importance of computer and English education.
     
Saifkhan who was also here said apart from students parents will also be motivated not to let their children drop out of schools.
    
Others those who will be undertaking yatra include SAT Ahmad, Ankit Agarwal, Nitin Sharma and Bailal Shakir.
      
Altogether 12 members of the IFY are from Bihar.

19 children hospitalised after mid-day meal

Banka(Bihar): Nineteen children fell ill after consuming mid-day meal at a school here, officials said.
      
The students complained of nausea and soon started vomitting after having the meal at the school in Bishamvhar Chowk, they said.
      
They were admitted to a local hospital where their condition is said to be out of danger.
      
Meanwhile, angry locals blocked Amarpur main road for several hours to protest against the incident.

Navodaya school entrance papers leaked

Munger (Bihar): The Navodaya school entrance test papers were leaked in Bihar's Munger district even as the district administration went ahead with the examination, officials said.

The leakage came to light when the local media got hold of some question papers, which were being sold for Rs 2,000 a piece previous night, they said.

District Education Officer Arun Kumar Kunwar said that a report in this regard had been submitted to the District Magistrate Kuldeep Narayan for taking action against the accused.

The Navodaya school examination controller had also been informed about the leakage of question papers, he said.

Bihar to have smaller universities



Patna: The Bihar government has decided to restructure existing universities in the state in view of the guidelines of the University Grants Commission.

Bihar Human Resources Development minister P K Shahi said a proposal to this effect was put forth by director of higher education to have smaller universities for smooth functioning.

The proposal has already being endorsed by Shahi and HRD principal secretary Anjani Kumar Singh.
The state has 12 universities at present. A detail proposal would soon be prepared to bifurcate Magadh University (MU) to create a new university comprising MU-colleges in Patna.

The proposal to carve smaller universities out of B R A Bihar University, Muzaffarpur, L N Mithila University, Darbhanga and T M Bhagalpur University would be initiated later, sources said.

The proposal to select the present universities has been mooted in keeping with UGC's guidelines for more universities to boost Gross Enrolment Ratio.
