Free laptops for class 10 toppers, free uniforms for all in Himachal

Dharamsala: The Himachal Pradesh government announced to provide free uniforms to students upto matriculation level.

Over 10 lakh students will benefit from this scheme, in which government would spend around Rs 64 crore, a spokesman of education department said.

Known as Atal School Uniform Yojna, the scheme shall be launched on May 9 by BJP national president Nitin Gadkari, he said.

The government has also declared that students who will capture the first 4,000 positions in the state board matriculation exam shall be given free lap tops.

The school education is also being made high tech in a phased manner in the state, he said.

HP Police introduces online system of exams

Chamba (HP): The Himachal Pradesh Police department has introduced an online system of examinations for the first time in the state.
 
Initially, a two-day departmental exam in information technology to the posts of head police constables had been conducted through the online system at the district headquarters, District Police Chief, Madhu Sudan Sharma said.
 
In the two-day examination, which concluded here, 63 police personnel had appeared, the police chief said.
 
The examinees were issued the copy of their result soon after the exam, Sharma said.
 
The online system would avert the possibility of leak of question papers, he said. 

Himachal Pradesh signs MOU with NTPC for Engineering College in Bilaspur

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh government signed an MOU with National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) for setting up of an Engineering College with hydropower engineering a speciality in Bilaspur district of the state.
   
The MOU was signed by S.K. Dass, Principal Secretary (Technical Education) on behalf of Himachal government and S. C. Gupta, General Manager Kol Dam Hydropower Project on the behalf of NTPC in the presence of Himachal Chief Secretary, Rajwant Sandhu here.
     
Sandhu said the engineering college would be set up at a cost of Rs. 100 crore and NTPC was contributing Rs. 37.5 crore for the project.
 
The construction work would start soon.
 
This would be first engineering college of its kind in the country.
     
NTPC, which was only executing the thermal power projects, has taken the first hydropower project and was executing the 800 MW Koldam project in Bilaspur distrit.
