Schools asked to implement RTE Act

Kohima: Nagaland school education department has asked for proper implementation of Right to Free and Compulsory Education for Children (RTE) Act 2009 by the schools in the state.

The notification issued by principal director of the directorate Bendangkokba, received here said no school or person should collect capitation fees while admitting the children an institution or subject them or their parents or guardians to screening procedures.

Any contravention of this notice would be liable for disciplinary action under relevant sections of the RTE Act, it said.

The notification said no child should be denied admission in the school for lack of age proof as specified in the Act, and no child is required to pass any board
examinations till completion of elementary education.

Similarly, no child admitted in a school should be held back or detained in any class, or expelled from the school till completion of elementary education, the order stated.

Likewise, no child should be subject to physical punishment or mental harassment, it said, cautioning that any contravention of this notification is liable for disciplinary action.

Moreover, no teacher is to engage in private tuition or private teaching activities as stated in the RTE Act, the notification said.
