Heavy fine for schools taking donations

Mumbai: Maharashtra government plans to frame an act to take heavy fine on schools that demand donation for admission . Such schools will pay ten times the amount they charge as donation, says a circular issued by the school education department on April 21.

According to the Right to Education Act, it is the duty of the state to provide free education to all children from six to 14 years. The act also clearly mentions that all private schools must reserve 25% of their seats for kids from the economically weaker sections.

To implement the provisions made in the RTE and ensure that schools don't take donations, the education department has issued a circular to this effect.
