New Delhi: Bringing cheers to book lovers, HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said efforts were on to make the biennial fair an annual event.
Inaugurating the 20th World Book Fair, he said the government was planning to hold the event every year "given its increasing popularity and growing status as one of the most important book-related events in the Afro-Asian region".
Stating that India is the third largest publisher of English books, he said his dream is to see every child in the country having access to information free.
In this regard, he said "I would love to see every child in the country have Aakash (the low-cost computing device)".
He said their mission is to see that India not only has an inclusive society but an inclusive learning society as well.
The fair, which will be held till March 4, is celebrating 100 years of Indian cinema, themed on the relationship between literature and cinema.
1,300 exhibitors are participating in the fair at Pragati Maidan.
Some of the works of acclaimed authors would also be released during this period.
Master storyteller Jeffrey Archer, who has been visiting India for the past few years to promote his books, will have his 'The Sins of My Father', the second in his five-book Clifton Chronicles series released on March 3.
